This morning, October 19th, several criminals robbed the world-famous Louvre Museum, as announced on X by Culture Minister Rachida Dati, who arrived on site together with French law enforcement and museum staff. The museum remains closed at this time. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but investigations are ongoing.

The newspaper Le Monde reports that, according to a source close to the case at the AFP agency, several criminals stole jewelry from the exhibition halls before fleeing, and that the events occurred, according to preliminary investigations, between 9:30 and 9:40 a.m. today, October 19th.

The extent of the loot is currently being assessed, but the criminals, whose number has not yet been disclosed, reportedly arrived on a scooter and used a freight elevator to access the targeted room, equipped with small chainsaws, according to a police source.

According to Le Parisien, the criminals specifically stole nine pieces from Napoleon and the Empress’s jewelry collection.

Investigations are still ongoing.
