The genius behind Federico Uribe’s recyclable art creations

Federico Uribe transforms discarded materials into stunning works of art, blending sustainability, creativity, and social commentary. His unique approach gives new life to objects that would otherwise be forgotten.

Plastic forks, brushes, coins, old colored pencils, fabrics, and even electrical wires: these are the materials favored by Colombian artist Federico Uribe, a true recycling wizard.

His works stand out due to the unique charm he imparts to discarded materials, transforming them into something entirely new, curious, and unpredictable.

Rather than altering these objects with traditional painting or sculpting techniques, Uribe assembles them with an almost obsessive mastery, creating visually compelling stories. With a deep emotional narrative sensitivity, he constructs worlds teeming with intricate details. Forests, seas, jungles, animals, and human figures all emerge from forgotten materials. The result? Immersive installations that pulse with color and movement. At a distance, these works might appear as traditional paintings or sculptures, but up close, they reveal their surprising compositions.

Uribe has even dedicated an entire series to electrical wires, called “Conectado”. In this series, the coldness of the material transforms into fluid lines, feathers, portraits, and landscapes full of life.

The way he bends the wire into soft, organic shapes is a testament to his skill at making something so industrial feel so full of energy.

No less powerful are his sculptures of animals, which not only symbolize beauty but also serve as witnesses to social and environmental wounds. For instance, his works featuring a lion and a tiger, made from bullet casings, reflect this stark combination of nature’s majesty and human-made destruction.

Among the materials Uribe frequently reuses are fabrics and colored pencils. He combines these elements to create visual and symbolic experiences that both enchant and provoke thought, delighting viewers while also offering room for deeper reflection.
