The problem of overtourism continues to plague Mount Fuji, which, after the 2024 restrictions, will introduce new, even more severe ones

The issue of overtourism has long affected Mount Fuji, and in 2024, measures were introduced to alleviate overcrowding. Among these steps, a ¥2,000 (approximately $13.50) entrance fee was implemented, along with a photo-blocking barrier placed at one of the mountain’s most iconic viewpoints.
However, this is only the beginning. Starting in July 2025, stricter restrictions will be enforced by the Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures. The entrance fee will double to ¥4,000 (about $27), and visitors will be required to make online reservations, aiming to limit the number of daily visitors.
In addition, safety measures will be strengthened to prevent accidents: the Shizuoka prefecture, for example, has introduced a safety course with a final test. Access times for trails will also be limited.
